Sovereign debt fears, economy sink stocks

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Stocks tumbled on Thursday as the number of Americans claiming jobless benefits rose unexpectedly and renewed fears of sovereign debt problems in Europe led investors to dump riskier assets.
