Tearful Toyoda apologizes; Japan hopes for recovery

TOKYO/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Toyota Motor Corp President Akio Toyoda apologized to U.S. lawmakers probing the automaker’s safety record and finished the day in tears, in what Japanese politicians hoped was a first step headed for rebuilding trust in the people’s most valuable company.
