According to a recent BusinessWeek article, just 37% of jobless U.S. workers are covered by unemployment insurance, down from 42% during the 1981-1982 recession. The safety net designed to help the unemployed get by until they can find more work is not quite as strong as it used to be. The mixture of rising layoffs, foreclosures, bankruptcies, businesses closing and a widespread hiring slow-down is plainly a recipe for economic turmoil for millions of American families. There are also millions of others right through the world affected by the current global economic meltdown we find ourselves in.

What is one to do? How can the average unemployed person find work or other means of earning income to support themselves, their families and meet their financial obligations? Many people are disenchanted with Corporate America and its empty promises. There is a less than enthusiastic question to go back to work for another company, doing the same thing and having near the same nearly certain future. One cannot continue to take the same actions, day in and day out, and expect to obtain different results. We all inherently know this yet we are all guilty of violating this logic at some point in our lives. While the unemployed masses start a frantic job search using the heap of online employment sites, there are those who are choosing a different path. And that scale may make all the difference for them.

Believe it or not, there is an industry that literally thrives in times of recession. It also grows steadily in times of extension as well. It offers an alternative to going back into the traditional workforce in Corporate America. It provides individuals, families and business partners with a levelheaded and proven business vehicle to not only start a fantastic income, but to build lasting wealth. It has a low barrier to entry and unbelievably low monthly overhead. Yet the income potential is unlimited, as has been illustrated by the leaders in the industry. It empowers people to learn, to grow, to share and to make a difference in the lives of others. When done right, it embodies all that one expects to experience while living a successful life.

It has many faces and many names and is perhaps one of the least understood industries in being, although it has successfully grown and expanded worldwide for the past 60+ years. While the news and media predict gloom and doom for the nation in months and years to come, those familiar with the Network Marketing industry, like Mr. Pilzer, predict a tremendous growth and opportunity for those that are willing to take action and get involved with this quick-on the rise industry.

For an experienced “Networker” it is not too hard to distinguish a fantastic company and opportunity from a mediocre one. But, how does one who is new to Networking and is interested in getting involved, find the right product, the right company and right compensation plot? First, it is critical to be with you the industry itself and why it is such a powerful vehicle for the creation of time freedom and money freedom. Once you are aligned with the right company then it is vital to make some commitments, to participate in training and to take action in the direction of your goals.

First, set your goals and define your dreams. Write down exactly what you want to accomplish, in what time period, and what you are willing to do in order to turn those goals into realities. Don't just write down what you want, but rather, write down how it will feel and what it will be like to do this, to have such and such or to be a particular kind of person. Add emotion and feeling into those equipment that are vital to you and it will add fuel to your motivation.

It is extremely critical that you commit yourself to at least 12-24 months of active participation surrounded by the company of your scale, before entertaining any thoughts of leaving to do something else. Far too many people invest 3, 6 or 9 months into their business and quit before they really start to see the results they expected. Income is reflected in an exponential upward trend, but some time and effort is required before it can be realized. Networking is NOT some kind of get rich quick scheme. Now, it is vital to note here that Network Marketing can be pursued as a part-time effort without interfering with a day job or running another business. Those that can invest a full-time effort will reap the rewards more quickly, but many multi-millionaire Networkers started out with a 5-10 hour per week commitment and it grew from there. In fact, having a job or another business can be advantageous because it daily puts you into contact with people that may be less than satisfied with their current lot in life and are looking for something else that they can do to achieve their goals and dreams.

The training is essential, especially for those that are new to the Network Marketing industry. Just like any other industry there are vital skills that must be learned in order to attain high levels of success. The fantastic news is that anyone can learn them if they are willing to be coachable and to make the necessary time commitment. The financial and lifestyle rewards for this level of commitment far outweigh the cost in time and effort.

In times of economic challenge such as this we need to take our own lives and futures into our own hands. We need to start our own fate rather than leaving it up to a boss, a company or a market condition to dictate.
